What is the difference between a referral and a letter of medical necessity?
A:
Essentially these are the same thing. The insurance is wanting verification that the treatment being rendered is medically necessary. If you a referral based practice, this means you will need referring provider referrals to correspond with the billing cycle of claims. The letter of medical necessity requires more details about why the therapy is required.
